(Note: You may have to point out some of them).

Here's some ideas -- Letter B

baseball, bat, brick, banana, balloon, biscuit, bread, (DVD Benji), boy, brush, bottle, bee, button

This is a good time to make a few toddler friendly items -- button -- cut a circle out of cardboard, cover it with paper or spray starch a piece of fabric and iron it on the cardboard, take a paper punch and punch two holes in center .

Print out or cut out a picture of a boy and spray starch or glue to a piece of wood

Just use your imagination, but make sure you have items he/she can identify with easily as you work towards the not so obvious ones. The reason for making some of these items, they will start to associate with the "same" items and that will essentially lead to further their ability to associate with other items.

The fun part though is this:
You will need a see through container -- preferably one that you won't mind sitting out (treasures are meant to be seen you know) :) As you work through the alphabet always have an item that would look great in their treasure jar, these are the "treasures of the day. If you are going to include things that you would not really allow them to play with, then you will need to have a lid on it that they can not take off or placed high where they can see but not get into.

Chenille stems are great for making bees, worms, etc animals, so you might want to make some with those, I think treasure jars should have rocks, toy soldiers, dolls, doll accessories, book marks, buttons, marbles, bird nests, and all kinds of bits and baubles, but you can tailor this to a theme or just to whatever you have on hand. This lends itself well to picking up items on walks and keeps the learning going.

Til next time......... toddle on ...........
Get a few dollar store clear small shoe containers or any that you choose, or optionally use cardboard and decorate yourself with pretty papers, paint, etc., or turn it into a toddler activity and let them help.

This little game goes into a "Dad Box" (you know the one with the pinstripes and cut up tie, lol) (Just put the hoop in there and the bags in an organizer (another shoe box or fabric bag, etc. for storage).

This is a two part activity.

If you haven't made bean bags or rice bags yet, now is the time.

Supplies:

Large bag of cheap whole grain rice or any type of dried bean/lentil
Fabric - Either scraps or whatever you have on hand (think re-purpose, cut up old pair of jeans or an old shirt or several different ones so they are not all the same, or keep same fabric, it's your choice.
Needle and thread to stitch them closed or glue gun
Velcro (for later)
Make one for each alphabet letter (you can make them round or square)
Alphabet letters - Cut from fabric or heavy paper

Cut out your circles or squares and fill them with beans or rice.
Either sew or glue them closed, then, attach Velcro to each side of your bean bag letters just a small piece so the letters can be stuck to the bean bags and for other uses in other tutorials for the bean bags. *

Basketball hoop - You can cut a circle and take out the inside so that you have a hoop out of something sturdy, or you can use an embroidery hoop.
You will need to be able to Velcro it to something that is safe and sturdy
when you want to use it. Make sure it's where your toddler can chunk it or
dunk it in the hoop. (A lid out of recycle bin works well for this).

There are different ways obviously to play this, you can lay out all the bean bags with the capital letters and have them put the lowercase letter on the opposite side, or you can let them find both and attach them to a bag. As they complete each one they can then run over and dunk it in the hoop. The hoop seems to make it enjoyable :) and worth their time. When they get bored with this, just leave it out for another round after nap or dinner with Dad. Note: Once they have matched them up, let them peel them off and drop the letters into a taped up box with an opening just make sure you Velcro a side to get them out. This helps their coordination and alleviates the "cleanup". If you make a fabric bag, you can hang it over the doorknob and let them drop the bean bags into it after the hoop when you are ready to put them away (more fun and less cleanup for you).

*If you want to make this a dedicated game you can optionally put the letters on permanently with a sharpie or fabric marker, but if you want to use them for other things, don't.

That's all there is except to have fun. This really is a favorite with kids, so I hope you will have hours of enjoyment and learning with this one.
Ammonia -- I don't use
Turtle Wax - I love (great for alot of things in house)
Fabric Softener Sheets -- Great for wiping down the bathtub after bubble baths
Rubbing Alcohol -- Germ Fighter; Takes off marker stains, Use to wipe down greasy kitchen hoods and other kitchen surfaces that get greasy (check for use on granite because I don't have granite in kitchen).
Peroxide - (Not regular peroxide, but food grade peroxide that you dilute MANY times) Caution ... can cause severe burns if not properly handled when diluting - but this is an awesome cleaner, can be used to run in humidifiers (See my post regarding how to do this safely). Great for cleaning and disinfecting kitchen counters, appliances that have a finish that won't be hurt by using this, the bathroom - shower, tile floors, tiled walls, toilets, counters, door knobs, you get the drift.
If I could only have one cleaner this would probably be it.
Bleach -- It has it's uses, just use in moderation and with caution, not that great for the eco system
Lysol -- I like the lysol in the bottle that you dilute, but recently I have had an allergic reaction to the scent and I've been using that my entire life. It's economical and great for disinfecting.
Soap -- Don't use bar soap on laundry, if you are out of washing detergent, use shampoo or liquid dish detergent instead.
Baking Soda - for carpet stains, in the fridge. odor absorber; washer - cleans and keeps from smelling, also can be added to brighten/whiten clothes and remove odors, along with borax
Coffee -- 1/2 cup ground coffee in open bowl to absorb odors
Windows - Soap/Water and newspaper
Hair Spray - Ink Stains and a few other stains
Orange Peels - The oil from the orange peels is a great cleaner and can be diluted and used as an astringent in a pinch
Lemon (See orange peels) -Also great air freshener
Natural Air Freshener -- Lemon Thyme Plants, Lavender Plants (Keep in pots inside, just brush your hand across them for a natural air freshener).
Indoor Air Quality -- see Natural Air Freshener -- also grow mint in water in window sills, also a great air freshener (do not let water get yucky)!
Air Ferns and some other house plants help the indoor air quality, reminder though, don't overwater and don't let the under pans get moldy and yucky

Think about heavy fabrics, carpets, curtains, linens, etc. If you are like me and love draperies, curtains, bedspreads, etc, it doesn't really occur to us how many negative affects we can get from those; dust and chemicals that come embedded in the fibers or the materials like glue and adhesives for carpeting and flooring. If you re redoing your home you might want to consider hard wood flooring versus carpeting, and for rugs, use ones that can be laundered or cleaned easily. If you have heavy rugs, some of those can typically be cleaned by taking outside, placing them on a cleaned cement walkway and cleaning with water hose after they have been vacuumed totally. Do not use chemicals on them unless you are a pro
Keep the water flowing until the rugs are clean (i.e., no more dirty water coming from them). Then allow them to dry thoroughly. Do not clean this way if your rugs are not suppose to be cleaned like this unless you are willing to chance ruining them.

As with all posts on the internet, MAKE SURE you are not allergic to any items before trying them, research on your own to make sure you want to use these products, and make sure you know they are safe for your surfaces BEFORE you use them.

What works for me may NOT be the best solution for YOUR NEEDS.
In fact, I think these would make amazing gifts for almost everyone lol. If making it for a family member, use family photos; if you are making it for your someone special you could use photos of the two of you, OR you could simply make one with Titles or Messages on it.

I thought a unique one would be to put a special "date" on each piece - walk in the park; movie; dinner at Baby Doe's; coffee @ Starbucks; a spa night; dinner by candlelight @ home; baseball game; theater; concert @ the amp theater; (you can dream up your own).........

An inexpensive gift that keeps on giving all year :) that's my kind of gift.

So here's the link, Christmas Ornament Turned Valentine's Gift
A LARGE PENCIL
They need the large size to have their fingers and hands adapt to holding a pencil,
and make sure you enforce holding it correctly.
Other tools that will help them progress to a standard pencil are squishy balls,
the more they squishy the more adaptability they will have with the pencil.
Make some bean or rice bags to toss around also,
If you need a toss game to make, email me.
They will squeeze on them and play with them and strengthen their hands and fingers.
Crayons - start with large ones then graduate to small ones.
You can reinforce the good habits while they are using the bigger tools.

Did you ever want to just transfer a couple of cross stitch patterns or an image onto something but didn't

When I was doing trade shows, it was quite expensive to do

Solution: A crafty cheaper fun way

Let's Get Crafting Smarter & Cheaper

Items You Need:

1) INKJET Printer (Not Laser)
2) Either Real Freezer Paper (Not Wax Paper)
or
A Sheet of inkjet printer labels that the labels have been used or removed
3) The digital image you want to print to transfer
Hint: There are many beautiful digital prints online (Check my blog list
for some of the sites that are free).
4) Scissors if using freezer paper
5) Whatever you are transferring image to
6) Spray adhesive if you are using freezer paper
See additional tips below

Basic Instructions:

Basically if you are using freezer paper you will want to print on the

waxy side of the freezer paper but in order for it to feed through your

inkjet printer you need to adhere it to a plain piece of paper. So cut

your freezer paper and use spray adhesive to adhere the 2 papers together.

The waxed part is what you will print on.

Note: The good news is that you can reuse the freezer paper transfer

and the label transfer many times. Just wipe them clean and keep them

in a folder where they will not get bent.

You will need to be able to print a "mirror image" on your printer,

otherwise your image will not be "right side up" for an easy way to

say it.

Once you have your image printed you can transfer to wood, paper, vinyl, fabric, etc. It will depend on your printer and the type of ink

your printer utilizes as to the durability of the transfer.

Again, depending on the type of ink, you will probably have to dampen (mist sparingly) the surface you are transferring to, then use a stiff piece of cardboard

or old credit /health insurance car to apply the image evenly. I would say that for most projects you should heat set it with at least a hair dryer on high,or

use heat gun for a few seconds, or iron set (just make sure you know how to

do it correctly so you do not ruin your iron).

Truly this is a project that you need to practice on a practice piece first so

that you can see if your ink is durable, and if your transfer is really what you

are wanting on your final product. Do this @ your own risk, these are merely

guides on how to do it, for example, I would not try this on a piece of fabric

that was 100 years old that was sentimental or was expensive. If you use on

a painted surface, make sure you have paint to repaint in the event this does

not turn out the way you want it to. Again, DO THIS @ YOUR OWN RISK --

Fair Warning :)

This is fun, inexpensive, and can create some great projects that before were quite expensive, so please do enjoy this craft and let me see what you transfer.

Happy transfers.
I saw one of these at a boutique and
I decided to recreate it, after I finished I realized it would have been a lot easier if I had started with
a sturdier base to begin with, but live and learn after you try something. I still think it's a great use for a book that really isn't worth much, and by that I mean one that really isn't an old old old book that might have sentimental or worth reading.

Looking back when I do another one, I am going to paint the outside of the pages top side and bottom with some gold acrylic paint or use a gold marker on the edges, I think that would really add some pizzazz to the wreath, although it was beautiful just plain, and of course one could always spray paint it in any color once it's done.
I placed matting underneath and a plastic mesh
in the event I wanted to turn that 35 feet back into a front garden, but that's
not the entire story. One of my best friends that lives down the street brought
her grandson who was 2 at the time to visit, and he and I had a great time picking
out pretty stones. As it happened that day I was working on a fairy house and
he conceived the idea that the fairy had put the rocks there. Well not to be
a spoil sport, and because I thought the idea was a grandone, I went along with
it, and periodically the "fairy" would place new treasures to be found in the
rocks. As my friend kept him alot, he made frequent trips at least couple times
a week to visit "the rocks" and "the fairy". The fairy was leaving different
colored "gems" (glass rocks), and other bits and baubles in the rocks and he
would come and spend at least an hour sifting through the rocks and playing
havoc in my zen garden (sigh) that sand wasn't really for digging up, but we
did have alot of fun lol (notice the we ahem)..... well he is now 12 years old,
and on occasion I still see him out picking through the rocks, although he
only does it when he thinks no one is watching. I had made the comment to
my husband that I really missed him being smaller and watching the excitement
of each new find he made, and about a week ago this young lady was walking
by with her daughter and she is 2 - and such a vibrant 2 year old but so well
mannered and such a girly girl. Just a beautiful child and she asked if she
could have a rock......... Well I guess you can guess the rest of this story,
everyday they walk and everyday the fairy manages to leave a few choice
things and I couldn't be happier. It's amazing how "rocks" can make faces
light up, but I am not truly surprised at that, I've been lugging home rocks
my entire life and I'm always looking for the next beautiful one to add to my
collection. So if you want some real enjoyment - you don't need 35 feet of rock,
just take a small flower pot or the basin for one, and fill with some pretty rocks,
add some pretty glass rocks and a few beads and some bits and baubles and
watch how it will grow into something beautiful.

LOL, just beware, our 35 feet of rock that was at least 8" deep is about half
that deep now, our rocks have been transported near and far by little rock
lovers and each time I look out and see little pockets being filled up I just
smile, and know ,that rocks for some, are things of beauty.
I like to print out pages and Deco P with them to
create tassel tags for gifts or Cards.

I've found the cheat way to make these thick is to take a piece of cardboard and wrap it around, glue or tape it and then put on pretty paper(s) and then deco the "tag words"
on that piece, you have instant thickness, and works well if you want to do for standups
on cards, etc.
If you haven't visited her site, it's totally awesome, lots of nice vintage graphics that she shares.
Now, with that being said, a friend saw one that she wanted to use on a tag and I wanted to
reference the source, and it was from Graphics Fairy, someone there was also wanting a
blank version of this, and someone else some M/C's, so I thought I'd see if this would
work for whatever anyone else wanted to use for as well.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">POLYMER CLAY
The Questions, The Answers & Where To Go To Find Projects

If you are like me, you use Google Search alot to find various things, but I do get frustrated these days because of all the "premium ads" and some of the total gibberish that comes up on searches. Narrowing things down to what exactly it is I am looking for really depends on knowing the correct terminology based upon what someone else calls something. In the polymer clay world, it has it's own terminology, and each specialized crafter seems to have their own terms for their techniques. For example, Millefiori Polymer Clay Patterns. Millefiori is taken from another art form and the techniques applied with polymer clay enable the pieces produced to have the Millefiori patterns. However, when I went searching, I was searching for a tutorial on "stained glass window" effect with polymer clay. What I ended up finding was Donna Kato's tutorial on Millefiori patterns on YouTube. (She is a master of polymer clay, I remember her from the Carol Duvall Show on HGTV several years ago, back in the days when I actually watched television). She displays this technique beautifully and shows the basic caning process (umm yeah that term - caning - the art of rolling out the clay into snakes or logs and then adding different colors of other sheets rolled thru the "pasta machine", to make logs. Donna Kato makes it look really easy, and I think the difference in clays pay a huge role in how quickly the shaping process goes. Below I am going to give you a link to a site that shows the different types of clay and their properties, this will help you decide which one you want to try to work with. I am also going to put the link to this Millefiori Polymer Clay Pattern Tutorial by Kato, with this tutorial alone, you could make pens, pendants, earrings, picture frames, decorative boxes, art for cards, actually just tons of things these would go beautifully on.

The third link, is to a tools section, while you can use some of the basic tools you have at home, you should not use for clay then take items back to cook food with, so if you use them in the clay, keep them for the clay. If you do other hobbies, sewing, crochet, beading, etc., you will already have some of the tools that work well with polymer clay. (ruler, crochet hooks, needles, toaster or convection oven). You can use your kitchen oven for polymer clay, but you are best served to get a toaster or convection oven cheaply from somewhere and dedicate it to your project, green-wise it makes more sense (you wouldn't cook one piece of toast in your big oven), nor would you want to put one pendant into the oven). The pasta machine, craft store $25-50 dollars depending on brand and bells and whistles. There are a few other tools that you need to start, but start off cheap and see if this is a hobby you really want to pursue before spending alot of dollars on the various items. S I M P L E is sometimes the best. The conditioning the Clay article makes mention of some of the simpler tools.

I think these links are probably the best places to start so you are not getting frustrated.

As always, have FUN, if you liked making dirt pies or using play dough or bread dough as a child, this will probably bring back a fuzzy warm feeling the first time you use it. After all, even as adults we still want to retain some of our childhood tendencies, life would be boring otherwise. On the other hand, polymer clay is a true art form, it seems each designer has their own takes and twists on projects and styles, you, will be no exception to that.
